Icy air streams across your face, snow crunches under your feet, and the view nearly takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Mittelland up to the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch glacier, bordered by four thousand metre peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 metres above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

Getting to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

From Interlaken Ost station to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald via the Bernese Oberland Railway. Change to the Wengernalp rack railway and go to Kleine Scheidegg. Ride the Jungfrau Railway directly from there to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. Journey time from Interlaken-Ost: 2 hours.

Ride to the Schilthorn

It just takes you 32 minutes by Cable car to reach the summit of the Schilthorn, on 2970 m. Enjoy the beautiful view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau (UNESCO World Heritage) and on more than 200 other summits.

Arrival by public transport

Interlaken is easily reached by rail, either via Basel – Bern – Spiez or via Lucerne over the Brünig Pass. Change trains at Interlaken Ost for Lauterbrunnen, where a postbus takes you to the valley station of the Schilthorn aerial cableway in Stechelberg. The aerial cableway to Mürren departs every 30 minutes.

If Interlaken had a king, he would reside on the Harder Kulm. From the viewing platform at 1,322 metres above sea level he would graciously look down upon Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, or admire the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. In fact, the Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant is reminiscent of a castle. In order to visit it, however, you don't need to be a king – just take a seat in the cable car and ascend Interlaken's own mountain.

A short walk from Interlaken-Ost railway station to the Harder Railway valley station. With a modern funicular to Harder Kulm. Travel time from valley station: 10 minutes.

When hiking on the Schynige Platte you don't get very far. Every few steps you stop to admire the stars, umbels and bells that bloom on the meadows. Or you can stop to admire the panorama. Everyone starts to slow down the pace. If they have not already done so: in the nostalgic trip on the Schynige Platte Railway or later in the restaurant with its breathtaking view.

With the Bernese Oberland Railway or by car to Wilderswil. The historic Schynige Platte Railway runs across the Breitlauenen Alp to the Schynige Platte. Travel time from Wilderswil: Approximately 1 hour.

Next to Interlaken is the town of Unterseen.

You won't even notice the change because it is a 10 minute walk from the center of Interlaken, it seems like another part of the city. Unterseen is gorgeous with traditional houses and a 13th century church around the river. It is a very picturesque visit to do in Interlaken.

Lauterbrunnen is a municipality in the Swiss Alps, to which Lauterbrunnen belongs. This lies in the Lauterbrunnen Valley with its steep rocks and the 300 m high Staubbach Falls. Nearby, the glacier water of the Trümmelbach Falls plunges down a cliff, down the cliff and past viewing platforms. A cable car leads from the village of Stechelberg to the Schilthorn. From here you have a view of the Bernese Alps.

The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum is an open-air museum in Hofstetten near Brienz in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It shows 109 original historical buildings from all parts of Switzerland, indigenous farm animals, original gardens and fields. Traditional crafts are shown in demonstrations.

Thun is a town near Lake Thun in the Bernese Oberland, a region in Switzerland. The Thun Castle, which has towers, dates from the 12th century and is located on a hill above the old town. It offers a wide view of the Alps. The city church from the 14th century has an octagonal tower and a baroque church hall. The Thun panorama in the Schadaupark on the lake is a 360-degree painting of the city from the 19th century. Paddle steamer drive across Lake Thun to the holiday resort of Interlaken.

You travel by historic funicular railway to the romantic lookout tower with exclusive views of Interlaken, Lakes Thun and Brienz and the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. At the top there is a large playground with a "Tarzan" zip wire, hamster ball and lots more besides. A panoramic restaurant, a model railway show and of course a unique toboggan run from the mountain down into the valley. The classiest in Switzerland. One big fun place.

In the Aare Gorge (Aareschlucht) in Meiringen, the force of the water is impressively manifested. In that place, the river water has carved a deep bed in the calcareous rock over the millennia. The gorge that has formed can now be covered in its entirety without any problem by means of walkways and a tunnel.

This 1.4 km long gorge was conditioned for the public in the late 19th century by means of a tunnel and walkways. At the main entrance, located to the east of Meiringen, there is a large car park and a restaurant. The total journey from the entrance to the exit on the Innertkirchen side takes around 40 minutes.

Legend has it that St. Beatus, the first apostle to Switzerland, fought a dragon in the caves above the Thunersee. The whole area has embraced the dragon theme: with Niederhorn and its dragon slide and the St. Beatus caves where the dragon may still live. You pay an entrance fee to explore the caves on a paved walkway. There are lots of formations with mood lighting and a river rushing through the caves. They have a nice dragon-themed playground outside. The caves are a good option both for rainy cloudy days and for hot days when you need to get out of the sun.

The St. Beatus Caves are a network of stalactite caves below Beatenberg near Interlaken in the canton of Bern. The cave system is located on the northern edge of Lake Thun. It can be walked around 1 km inside the Niederhorn massif
